Happy Mother's Day

For Mother's Day my family spoiled me. On Saturday we got up early and went to Salt Lake for the Susan B. Komen Breast Cancer Walk. When we got home Mike and the kids gave me a few hours to myself. It meant a lot to me, I don't get much time to myself. On Sunday morning the kids made me breakfast in bed (thank you Savhannah), and then they all gave me gifts. Brandon made me a card with flowers that were made out of his finger prints, Madelyn gave me a recipe book that all the kids in her class had written out their favorite recipes, and Savhannah gave me a book that she had written titled, "My mom the Cutie Pie". They also gave me some clothes, shoes, socks, sandals and a new toaster! Then, Mike got the kids all ready for church(except the hair). After church Mike made dinner and it was wonderful! I am so blessed to be a mother to the little ones Heavenly Father blessed me with, and I can't be a mom without my amazing husband...I LOVE YOU ALL!

I had the opportunity to speak on Mother's Day. Even though I complained all week, I was grateful for the chance to speak. I always learn so much about myself and Heavenly Father's love for me. I spent alot of time on my knees and, whether people heard my words or the spirit spoke to them, it went over very well. I would just like to post the part of my talk about my mom! I love her! She is an amazing example to me of a life a selfless service. Thank you mom, for all you do for everyone you meet, you are amazing, an elect lady, and I am honored to call you mother!

Growing up I had a most wonderful example of motherhood. My mom was always positive – sometimes even when I didn’t want her to be. She had a way of seeing things from others perspective. She reminded us often not to judge others “until we walked a mile in their shoes”. She seldom complained. She was always devoted to her many church callings. She taught me how to serve through her example. My mother had to work outside the home, and though qualified to do many other things, took a job that would allow her to take her young children with her. I remember many a night that when my mom got home from meetings tired I was there waiting for her to help me with some report or project for school, and if I was 1 night a week, she had 5 other children. My father was called as bishop when she was a young mother with 6 children and she always supported him in his calling, when we complained about dad not being home for dinner or other family events, she reminded us that he was doing what the Lord wanted him to and that our family was continually blessed by his obedience. My mom always expected the best from us and for us to hold high standards. She never said you need to be a lady, she said you ARE a lady. She taught me who I am, a daughter of God. Each time we would leave our home, my mom would simply say, “Remember who you are!” Because of her high respect for me, I respected her and never wanted to do anything that would disappoint her. Most importantly she taught me the gospel of Jesus Christ and I will be eternally thankful to her for that.
